Implementing the amended Mental Health Act 1983

The Mental Health Act 2007 amends the Mental Health Act 1983. This website is for everyone involved in implementing those amendments

CSIP/NIMHE is tasked by the Department of Health to have a key role in:

  • informing those involved in mental health care of the proposed changes and the impact they may have
  • supporting implementation by service providers, directly and by signposting sources of information
  • and providing opportunties to influence national policy

Code of Practice is Go!

The revised Code of Practice and the secondary legislation have now completed the 40 day parliamentary process and will become operational from 3rd November to co-incide with the bulk of the changes to the Mental Health Act 1983 coming into effect. These documents can be found of the Department of Health website here.

Changes to the Mental Health Review Tribunal

Changes are proposed with the creation of a  Health Education and Social Care chamber (HESC).
